An overview of OTBP
Ortho-tertiary-butyl phenol is a chemical compound with a clear colourless and sometimes pale yellow appearance. It is a viscous liquid with a density of 0.982 at room temperature (approximately 20°C). It is often used as a basic raw material for antioxidants, fragrance compounds and various agrochemicals. Butyl phenol is used as an intermediate for flavours, fragrances, and antioxidant intermediates.

Manufacturing of ortho-tertiary-butyl phenol: An overview
Uses and Applications
OTBP compound is the starting material for the synthesis of various antioxidants as well as agrochemicals. Cis-2-t-butylcyclohexanol is obtained by the hydrogenation of ortho-tertiary-butyl phenol in the presence of catalysts and is used in the production of fragrance compounds. It is a chemical intermediate for polymerised resins, plasticizers, surface-active agents, perfumes among other products.
Vinati Organics is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of ortho tertiary butyl phenol. OTBP from Vinati is obtained at a purity of 99% by distillation. The compound is formed with relatively high selectivity by a reaction between phenol and isobutene with gamma aluminium trioxide as a catalyst.
