    How is it manufactured?

Direct amination of isobutylene yields tertiary butylamine. This is a commercially accepted process. On a small scale, TB Amine can be produced by the hydrogenolysis of 2,2-dimethylethylenimine. Another method is mixing isobutylene with sulfuric acid and afterwards with hydrogen cyanide to produce tertiary butylformamide. Its hydrolysis yields Tertiary butylamine.

    Industry Applications

    • Tertiary butylamine is a key intermediate to manufacture pharmaceutical drugs Perindopril Erbumine and Rifampicin, agrochemical Diafenthuiron, rubber accelerants, dyestuffs, insecticides, fungicides and lubricating oil additives. A mixture of TB Amine, platinum and amino acid possesses anti-tumour properties.
    • It is also a useful solvent for the removal of surfactants such as PVP from the surface of nanoparticles.
