Application
2,6-DTBP is used as an intermediate to manufacture antioxidants that are used in polymers like polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene and other products.
2,6-DTBP is used directly as an antioxidant in lubes, jet fuels, metal cutting fluids.

How is it manufactured?
2, 6-dtbp is an organic compound with the chemical formula C14H22O. It is prepared by reacting phenol with isobutylene with an acidic catalyst.
The reaction of 2-tert-butyl phenol with isobutene in the liquid phase is performed with small quantities of catalyst to produce 2,6-DTBP. This reaction is performed in the presence of diluents such as liquid saturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons at temperatures of 0° C. to 80° C.
Industry Uses and Applications
2 6 di tert butylphenols are majorly used as an antioxidant for hydrocarbon-based products like Industrial, Engine Oil, Driveline and Fuel applications. The product also popularly called 2,6-DTBP is used as an intermediate to manufacture several industrially important phenolic compounds like AO 1010, AO 1076, AO 1335 and so on that are used in polyolefins as primary antioxidants.
