The manufacturing process of TOA

Tertiary Octyl Acrylamide is commonly produced in the industry by the addition of acrylonitrile and di-isobutylene in an acidic environment.

Industry Uses and Applications:

Tertiary Octyl Acrylamide is a monomer that can be polymerized with other comonomers to yield polymers with varying applications. They work as intermediates in

the production of various other compounds  In addition to these, n-TOA (CAS No. 4223-03-4) has diverse applications. Some of them include:

  • Personal Care Products: Copolymer/ Terpolymer of n-tertiary octyl acrylamide monomer with acrylates are utilized in products like hair spray, mousses as well as styling products. These compounds enable unparalleled curl retention, hand-hold and humidity resistance.
  • Antiscalant: Copolymer of TOA with acrylates (especially with acrylic acid) is not only implemented in stabilizing iron in a solution but also effective against scales in the presence of soluble iron.
  • Amplify Oil Recovery: Terpolymer of n-TOA and copolymer provides a balance between aqueous solubility, Viscosification, brine tolerance, hydrolytic & mechanical stability and therefore used for EOR polymers.
